Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have a question that you would like answered before visiting our church? If you cannot find the answer below, feel free to drop us an email.

Where do I park when I arrive?

Secure parking is provided on site.

What facilities do you provide for the disabled?

Wheelchair access is provided into the building via a ramp to the front door.

Who do I speak to at the service if I need information about something?

You can speak to just about anyone, who will point you in the right direction. However the Pastor is always available to speak to after the service.

Will I be expected to say anything?

We have no desire to embarrass you or make you feel uncomfortable when you visit us. There is a very good chance that you will be noticed by members on your first visit and will be greeted by them before and after the service. However, you will not be identified in any way during the service.

If you would like a visit from the pastor, you can ask a deacon or usher for a visitor’s information slip. You can complete the slip with your details and either drop it into the offering bag or leave it at the book table after the service. It will be given to the pastor who will contact you to arrange an appointment.

Is there a dress code?

There is no strict dress code, but you will quickly notice that the general ethos of the church is conservative. Our only request in terms of dress is that you dress modestly so as to avoid any unnecessary distraction during the service.

Can I meet the pastor?

Our pastor would love to meet you, upon appointment.

How long are the sermons?

Someone once said that we live in the age of the sermonette, and sermonettes make Christianettes. Preaching is really the focal point of our worship services. A typical sermon will last anywhere from 30 to 40 minutes.

Is provision made for children?

During the morning service a children’s Sunday school classes are available for children from Grade 1 to 7.

There is a mother’s room for nursing mothers, There is also a room with audio feed for parents with sick children.

How do I begin the process of church membership?

You begin the process by visiting the church! Church membership is a considered decision, and so it is important for you to visit for several weeks or months before you consider membership.

Membership classes are held as and when the need arises.

You can also complete a visitor’s information slip and request a visit from the pastor, or make an appointment to meet the pastor at the church office during the week.

Will you baptise my child?

We believe that baptism is an act of obedience for those who have been saved by God’s grace and have requested baptism. We do not baptise infants. We also believe that baptism is a step toward the process of church membership. Baptism does not save anyone, but it does identify you publicly with Christ and therefore with His people. If you have a desire to submit to the Lord in baptism, speak to our pastor.

Can I partake of Communion?

We do not practice “closed Communion” in our church. That is, the Lord’s Table is not only for members of Emmaus. We do, however, believe that Communion is only to be taken by those who are believers. If you are a believer in good standing with another local church, or seeking membership in a local church, we invite you to partake with us.

Will you perform a wedding or funeral at the church for me?

Weddings and funerals are performed only for church members or those seeking membership with the church. Speak to the pastor if you have any questions about this.
