Leadership

Read on to find out a little about the leadership of our church.

The saying is trustworthy: If anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble task. Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, and able to teach, not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. He must manage his own household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive, for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God’s church? He must not be a recent convert, or he may become puffed up with conceit and fall into the condemnation of the devil. Moreover, he must be well thought of by outsiders, so that he may not fall into disgrace, into a snare of the devil.

(1 Timothy 3:1-7)

John Linton is the pastor-teacher of The Emmaus Baptist Church and hails originally from the East Rand. He is married to Ingrid and they have four children and currently boast five grandchildren and two pet canines.

John obtained a Degree in Theology ( BTh) at BTC Southern Africa.  He is committed to Expository preaching as well as traditional Baptist values.  His love for preaching often means that holidays to New Zealand or Australia to visit family, are spent preaching at different churches as the opportunity arises.

John has a ministry that includes church planting in Hartbeespoort Dam (9 years) and Senior Pastor for the last 8 years of the Klerksdorp Baptist Church (including launching a church plant in Potchefstroom).

Besides preaching, John is convinced that every believer should be equipped to defend the faith (Apologetics for the Pew) and counter false religions (Countering Man Centred Religion) so that through Evangelism, the local church might grow.
